www.flashcardexchange.com
This website will be great for our school to use because using flashcards to study is one of the most effective things. On this website you can browse over 50 million flashcards! I have first semester finals coming up and I know that i'll be using this site to help me study. Something else very effective about this site is that you can create your own flashcards as well. Teachers can take the information their students have been learning, make flashcards, and then let students study them on their computers or smart phones.
http://www.dvolver.com/moviemaker/index.html
Dvolver Movie Maker will be perfect for SWMS because the teachers are always trying to find creative ways to teach us. Creating easy, free movies about things we're learning about will be very effective. There are many different plots, characters, settings, music, and title choices to pick from. I do think that they should add some more setting and character choices but there are still plenty. The students could always take the information they've learned in class and make a movie on it. They could do a twist to the story or stick to what they've learned. I see this moviemaker being used in History class or Language Arts class.
http://prezi.com/
Prezi is an easy and effective way to share your ideas in an orderly way. It would be great for SWMS because we could make these in groups or by ourselves and then present our ideas to the class. You can make connections on Prezi which is always important to the teachers and students. It is always free and has limitless possibilities of presenting your ideas. We could use this in a Math, Science, History, and Language Arts classroom. We're always trying to find new ways to share ideas in an easy, effective, orderly, and creative way.
http://www.brainpop.com/
I think that Brain Pop will be great for SWMS because it uses a wide variety of educational material and puts it in a funny, entertaining, and easy to understand way. They have videos for every grade, and every subject. There's even interactive quizzes the students can take. They even have it for ESL and "Jr." students. I think that every student will enjoy watching videos to explain what they're learning whether then taking notes or reading a book. Thousands of schools across the globe use Brain Pop! It follows two characters a boy, Tim, and his robot friend, Moby.
http://teachertube.com/
TeacherTube is a "Youtube" for teachers! Teachers can post educational videos. This is perfect for SWMS because if a student needs some reinforcement or if they don't understand the way the teacher is explaining it, they can go on TeacherTube and learn from another teacher. This could also be a way for our SWMS teachers to share their teaching. One of our teachers could video some of their lessons and post it on TeacherTube. Also, if a student were to miss a day of school they could catch up on what they missed by watching their teachers lesson from that day on TeacherTube. As you see, TeacherTube can be used for many different things at SWMS. One thing that may worry teachers is that there are inappropriate things for students on the site, but it is apart of their "About Us" to "seek to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners."
